Donald Winnicott,  'Playing and Reality'

“It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.”

MY STORY

My name is Marcin Zielonka. I am an attentive Dramatherapist committed to developing effective relationships and adapting my work to clients' needs. I am a reflective and creative practitioner, guided by the client's 'agenda' and attuned to their 'healthy' aspects of self, as well as difficulties they may be experiencing. In my practice, I equally draw on creative methods,  symbolic approaches and talking strategies.

As a dramatherapist and a person who has discovered the joy of being creative and its healing and freeing potential, I strongly believe that what Donald Winnicott said in his Playing and Reality is true:

"It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self."

The above I've experienced myself and witnessed with other people too. I believe that through engagement in creative processes combined with mental reflection, personal transformation is possible.

I maintain a client-centred approach at all times modelling it on humanistic methodology. I draw on creative-expressive methods, symbolic approaches as well as talking strategies.

In addition to my private practice, I work in NHS with children and adolescence. I also facilitate confidence-building workshops for adults, and I work as a lecturer/workshop facilitator at a post-graduate diploma in Dramatherapy in Poland.

I am registered as an Arts Therapist – Dramatherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), practising in accordance with their standards of ethics and professional conduct. I am also a full member of the British Association of Dramatherapists and the Polish Association of Dramatherapy. I completed my MA in Dramatherapy at Roehampton University.

Apart from being Dramatherapist, I am also Clinical Supervisor. I completed Diploma in Creative Arts Clinical Supervision at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London.

I work and live in Northumerland.

A BIT ABOUT THERAPY

Personalized Attention for All Your Needs

Dramatherapy ‘has as its main focus the intentional use of the healing aspects of drama and theatre as the therapeutic process. It is a method of working and playing that uses action methods to facilitate creativity, imagination, learning, insight and growth’ (BADth).

Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy in which the client's participation in creativity, movement, play, voice-work, dramatic improvisation, enactment and theatrical performance is central. The Dramatherapist uses different forms of intervention  to respond to the specific needs of individuals and groups of clients.

The method is firmly rooted in knowledge of dramatic techniques and processes and in psycho and socio-therapeutic concepts and practices relevant to understanding the psychotherapeutic needs of a range of clients.

FEEDBACK I’VE RECEIVED

What My Clients Are Saying

'I loved Marcin's drama session. Having taken part in many other workshops of this kind, I can tell this one had something special. So much can be conveyed without words. And the world of objects (props) opened up my imagination and created new horizons ahead of me. My favourite bit was when we received all that we needed in the end, which we all took home with us. I encourage everyone to have a go! You are in good hands.'

Alexa

"This was an excellent workshop to take part in: we had a chance to be spontaneous and surprise ourselves. I found it possible to get involved quickly with a group who were new to me. I am sure going to a group with similar structure over a period of weeks would be even more rewarding"

Thelma

'I attended 'The What Is Behind The Curtain' workshop today: this was very new to me, having never experienced anything similar. I was interested in the concept and glad I gave it a go. It was an opportunity to leave the stresses of the outside world aside for a short while! The group was relaxed, friendly and all in all a positive experience. I left feeling quite a bit lighter. Thank you Marcin, and all!'

ADULTS

Sometimes talking therapy is not enough. It is often because there are no words to describe your thoughts or feelings, or simply because you are tired of talking. Creative processes like dramatherapy can help you explore and express what cannot be said. They allow deeper and faster work toward greater self-expression, expanding your understanding and perception, as well as positive transformation in your life.

In the first few sessions we will work together to gather enough information about your history and goals to begin treatment, as well as to clarify the length of the therapy. Then in subsequent sessions we will focus on your personal material in a way that suits your needs.

If you are ready to try something different then dramatherapy might be right for you.

CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENCE

Children also sometimes find it difficult to navigate life's complex twists, turns and relationships, and cannot make sense of what is happening around them. Traditional talking approaches may not be effective for your child as children learn and grow through play. In individual dramatherapy sessions, your child will engage in dramatic play to increase ability to flexibly respond to life's challenges.

Dramatherapy provides a place where your child can access his/her imagination, express feelings and experiment with new responses. This can improve mood, resilience, lower stress, increase creativity and improve social skills, as well as improve academic performance.
